Dr. Julia M. Foght Julia Foght is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Her long-standing interests in cold microbiology include bioremediation of hydrocarbons in cold soils, subsurface sediments and aquifers. More recently her lab has been isolating and characterising subglacial microbes. Other research areas include petroleum bio-processing, methanogenesis in oil sands tailings basins, and microbial interactions with hydrocarbons: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon efflux, interfacial phenomena and active uptake across membranes. She is delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the natural wonders of the Canadian Rockies to attendees of the 3rd International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology. |
